Alex Luft‘s fiction has appeared in Sequestrum, The Adirondack Review, Midwestern Gothic and elsewhere. He is currently a Ph.D. student at the University of Illinois at Chicago. In his youth, some friends took to calling him “Hotcakes” as a kind of nickname. The underlying logic was unclear. There was, however, an associated theme song that used the tune and lyrics of Barry Manilow’s “Copacabana.” The name “Hotcakes” was substituted for “Lola.” The author now considers these the good old days.
