Ethna McKiernan grew up in New York, Ireland, and St. Paul.  She has been twice been awarded a Minnesota State Arts Board grant in poetry. Her first book was a Minnesota Book Award Nominee and her second and third books were published by Salmon Poetry. Her 4th book, Swimming With Shadows, is due early 2019. McKiernan holds an MFA from Warren Wilson Program for Writers, and has worked as a grape-picker in France and a schoolbus driver in her earlier life. She is now a Street Outreach worker serving the Minneapolis homeless and unsheltered population.
