Dianne K. Olsen is a freelance writer, poet and garden consultant living in the northwest Berkshires with her husband, Tom, and their cat, Spotty. She wrote “The Valley Gardener” column for the Poughkeepsie (NY) Journal for four years in the early 2000s.  Now retired from a fifteen-year career as a horticulture and environmental educator with Cornell Cooperative Extension in Putnam County, NY, she is a volunteer teacher for teens, middle-school and elementary-school children as they plant vegetable gardens for a local food pantry.
