Karen McDermott is an attorney turned English professor who writes novels, poetry, and screenplays when not grading student essays. She hates pretension but loves poets who use simple words to reveal complex ideas. Her favorites include Billy Collins, Wanda Coleman, Lucille Clifton, Juan Felipe Herrera, and Sharon Olds. Originally from the East Coast, she currently lives in Los Angeles, where she sits in traffic, grows bitter and decides to leave Los Angeles, then lives in Los Angeles some more.
