About this piece, Oonah says, “Fiona Lambert on WriteWords came up with this challenge in January – write about homemade soup — she must have been feeling a bit hungry that day. Anyway, I said I’d see what I could cook up and this is the result. Most people thought it would have a macabre ending but I FOOLED them so maybe the publishing date was meant to be.

I dedicate this story to the memory of John Ritchie, whose comments nurtured so many of us at Writewords in our writing. He is greatly missed.”
