Maya by Bob McNeil

Art credit - Elizabeth Stark
Art credit – Elizabeth Stark

Bob McNeil recalls, at the age of six, A Child’s Garden of Verses planted a seed in his mental soil.  Later in life, the Imagists and Negritude Movement nurtured him.

Bob McNeil tries to compose poetic stun guns and Tasers, weapons for the downtrodden in their battle against tyranny.  His verses want to stand like citadels against reactionary politics.  Moreover, his work is dedicated to one cause—justice.

Even after years of being a professional illustrator, spoken word artist and writer, he still hopes to express and address the needs of the human mosaic.

  1. Sir. Bob McNeil.
He epitomizes the essence of real life experiences in poetic justice for all to hear and realize. I am truly honored to hear the heart of a human being who oozes love, respect and kindness through his poems. May we all experience real words with true meaning. Continued Blessings, lovely man and dear friend. 😀

  2. Bob McNeil is a poet of remarkable skill and range. This poem is a poignant observation of the brutality of abuse. He captures with great passion the private hellish abused Maya Angelou endured and he does it with such feeling that it tears at ones heart. At the end he brilliantly sums it by making her a matriarch who will continue to inspire a new generation. Beautifully done my friend!

  3. A true to life performance to the contemporary, deconstructive world scenario with great verve and variation in the presentation.

  4. Bob McNeil knows words, poetic device, emotions, poignant and inner truths and he knows how to combine these forces to make relevant, necessary and powerful poetry! Thank you for this brilliant piece!
