Joan Caska writes primarily flash fiction and short stories, with a specialization in literary writing and keen interest in magical realism. Studying and teaching the craft of writing in local workshops are her primary means of connecting with other writers in the small, upstate New York community where she lives. Joan works as a freelance writer and copy editor to pay the bills. She shares her home with a wide diversity of pets, including an African Grey parrot, two parakeets, an Afghan Hound, a box turtle, a chinchilla she’s had since 1991, many fish, and her best friend, Myron (aka ‘Buddy’). In her spare time, she reads an awful lot of books, and seeks refuge from the pets in nature, gardening, hiking or snowshoeing in her 33-acre yard.
